Moving onward

After some deep reflection and consideration, I have decided to streamline my professional self, to more closely align what I love to think about with what I do as a career.

Last week, I resigned as online manager for KOAT, bringing to a close about nine years experience in radio, print and TV settings, the later two for their respective online components. I have learned much, tried to offer interesting ideas along the way, observed the fluctuating (but generally ever-widening gap) between how users operate with information and how MSM offers information for users to operate, and taken it all in. In truth, the best is still to come for the station, and I'd like to think I've done a little to pave the way. I'll still be at the station for a while, as everyone involved seeks to transition out and in.

But it's time to move on, to get out of the daily local news environment and move into a more PR/consulting/freelance role or position. One avenue I'm excited about would be in putting my social media acumen and newsroom experience into service for clients of PR and advertising firms. First-hand experience in both building social engagement and understanding what a newsroom needs should be of benefit to a couple of people out there...

Concurrently, I'm inspired to apply the skill set for Muslim and interfaith organizations as well as NGOs with interests in the South Asia/MENA regions. It's time do my part -- and to help Muslims organizations and individuals to do their part -- in a serious effort to demystify the American Muslim experience. I'm starting a couple of different organizations to tie all of that together, and will post developments here.
